Contrary to popular belief, there is a subjective argument to having success in business. Yes, I know the goal is to make money, but success can also be based on a person’s own perception of success because it can also be said to be the achievement of desired visions and planned goals. In this post I will talk about the 5 keys to success that I have found as an entrepreneur myself that goes beyond just making money and the ‘aesthetics’ of being an entrepreneur and share with you key things to being successful as an entrepreneur.
1) There is success in being organised
Being organised is one for the keys to success as an entrepreneur apart from being able to organise the business operations, you also have to be organised because you are your brand. This means sticking with your schedules, for example, arriving early for appointments and/or meetings, attending events that you have accepted invitations to and have not sent apologies for.
Most of the time, (especially when you start) you find that you are a one person show, so the impression you leave on others is very important in building a good foundation for your business because the fastest way to destroy people’s trust in you is to waste their time. So make sure you organise your time that allows you some flexibility for other things that may arise.

2) Success is knowing how to communicate with others
From being able to negotiate and sell your products/services, to something as simple as answering your phone and returning phone calls. You have to communicate with others. Want to know the big SECRET to communication?
- Actively listen to people when people talk to you
- Show an interest in what others are saying so you know how to better interact with them.
- Devote all of your attention to what the other person is actually saying, so be mindful you are not time sharing the conversation with other tasks, such as checking your phone for emails.
Being able to communicate is key to ensuring cohesiveness of any organisation whether it is internal (staff) or external (customers) communication.
3) Success in being able to plan and execute projects
Planning may come easily but also being able to execute your plan is a key thing to success as an entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur you have to have the ability to plan a project, it’s like having a bigger picture perspective, so that you can bring together all the different aspects of the project in order to achieve the desired outcome.
As well as planning the project, you have to be able to execute the plan. Having a document setting out the details of the works to be completed and when they should be completed by means nothing if you are unable to actually execute it.
4) There is success in helping others
Being an entrepreneur can be lonely at times where we forget that we can still be the impact that someone needs in their lives to start them on their journey. Being a mentor for newcomers, sharing ideas and teaching people skills that will help them excel all helps towards being a successful entrepreneur.
All of this helps you to build relationships and just as much as sales can help generate revenue, so can relationships.
